Type of Publication:  Annual Review to provide “provides an annual overview and descriptive analysis of selected topics of relevant research literature through critical and synthesizing essays”.  Title: Review of Research in Education, American Educational Research Association (Sage Publications)

Credibility: Maybe

  1. One of the authors, Mark Warschauer, is from the University of California, a well known university, and has over 14,000 citations from his various publications, with nearly 7,000 within the last five years (from Google Scholar).
  2. Verified academic email.
  3. Sage Publications appear to be a reputable and long established publishing house (since 1965), publishing more than 650 journals and 800 books.
  4. It is not a peer reviewed journal.

  1. Aurthor, Eszter Hargittai is a Professor at Northwestern University with a verified academic email.
  2. She has been cited more than 8,000 times and nearly 6,000 times since 2009.
  3. This article has been cited 196 times.
  4. However, the article was published nearly 10 years ago and maybe outdated as technology has changed rapidly in this time and new research may be more relevant to the current era.

Credibility: Yes

  1. All authors have written other articles which have been cited and are all associate professors at universities.
  2. Although this article has only been cited once, it is current (is the number of citations a good indication of the quality of the paper, especially if it has been published recently?)
  3. Published in a peer-reviewed journal
